Teltonika RMS (Remote Management System) is a cloud-based device management platform purpose-built for Teltonika Networks routers, gateways, and modems. It allows installers, operators, and enterprises to remotely monitor, configure, and access devices deployed behind private or CGNAT cellular connections without requiring public IP addresses.

The platform is hosted on AWS, uses a credit-based licensing model, and is designed for managing distributed IoT and M2M estates at scale.

Platform Overview

Teltonika RMS operates as a Software-as-a-Service platform delivered entirely through a web browser. Devices connect outbound to the RMS cloud, removing the need for inbound firewall rules, port forwarding, or fixed public IP SIM cards.

This architecture makes RMS particularly well suited to cellular deployments, where routers typically sit behind carrier-grade NAT and are otherwise difficult to reach remotely.

Key characteristics:

  • Browser-based platform (no local software installation)
  • Outbound device-initiated connections
  • Designed specifically for RutOS-based Teltonika hardware
  • Scales from single devices to multi-thousand-unit fleets
  • Optional mobile app for monitoring and alerts

Core RMS Services

Teltonika RMS is made up of three distinct services, each licensed separately.

RMS Management

RMS Management is the core service that provides remote administration and monitoring of Teltonika devices.

Capabilities include:

  • Live device status and connectivity monitoring
  • Remote configuration changes via web UI or CLI
  • Firmware uploads and bulk firmware updates
  • Device reboot and recovery actions
  • Cellular signal metrics and data usage visibility
  • Alerting based on connectivity, usage, or device state
  • Configuration backup and restore
  • Bulk operations across multiple devices

This service replaces manual site visits for most operational tasks and is commonly used by installers managing large numbers of customer-deployed routers.

RMS Connect

RMS Connect enables secure, on-demand remote access to equipment connected behind a Teltonika router.

Typical use cases include accessing:

  • PLCs and industrial controllers
  • HMIs and control panels
  • IP cameras and NVRs
  • Embedded web interfaces
  • Remote desktops and engineering tools

Supported access methods:

  • HTTP / HTTPS
  • SSH
  • RDP
  • VNC

Connections are tunnelled through the RMS cloud without exposing the site to the public internet. No port forwarding or public IP addressing is required. Usage is metered per session, making it easy to track operational costs.

RMS Connect is widely used for remote diagnostics, commissioning, and post-installation support.

RMS VPN

RMS VPN provides centrally managed VPN connectivity without the need to manually configure VPN tunnels on individual routers.

Supported scenarios:

  • Site-to-site VPN between multiple Teltonika devices
  • Point-to-site VPN access for engineers and technicians
  • Hub-and-spoke topologies for multi-site deployments

Features include:

  • Centralised VPN management from the RMS portal
  • Automatic certificate and key handling
  • Secure tunnel establishment through the RMS infrastructure
  • Data usage tracking per VPN tunnel
  • Reduced configuration complexity compared to manual IPSec or OpenVPN setups

This service is commonly used where secure inter-site connectivity is required but in-house networking expertise is limited.

Pricing Model

Teltonika RMS uses a credit-based model alongside long-term fixed packages.

RMS Management

  • Free trial: 30 days per device (automatic on registration)
  • Credits: 30 days of management per credit, pooled and assignable to any device
  • Fixed packages: 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year licences tied to a specific device

Credits provide flexibility for changing fleets, while fixed packages offer better value for long-term, static deployments.

RMS Connect and RMS VPN

  • Free tier: One-time 5 GB data allowance per company
  • Data credits: 2 GB per credit, pooled at company level
  • Data packages: Long-term per-device data allocations (typically 10-year terms)

API usage includes a free allowance of 100,000 requests per 30-day period, which is sufficient for most monitoring and integration workloads.

Security Architecture

RMS is designed with enterprise-grade security controls.

Key security measures include:

  • TLS-encrypted communication between devices and cloud
  • Proprietary device-to-server protocol
  • AWS-hosted infrastructure with standard cloud security controls
  • Optional Teltonika ID with biometric authentication
  • Two-factor authentication for account access
  • Full audit logs tracking user actions and configuration changes

The platform is designed to minimise attack surface by avoiding inbound connections to field devices.

API and Integration

Teltonika RMS provides a comprehensive REST API for automation and integration.

API capabilities include:

  • Device status and telemetry access
  • Configuration management
  • Event and alert retrieval
  • Fleet-level reporting
  • Bulk operations via API calls

The API is documented using an OpenAPI specification and is commonly integrated with:

  • Network management systems
  • Ticketing and support platforms
  • Internal dashboards and monitoring tools
  • Custom provisioning workflows

Supported Devices

RMS supports Teltonika Networks hardware running RutOS firmware, including routers, gateways, modems, and selected switches.

Device categories include:

  • Routers: RUT200 series, RUT900 series, RUTX series, 5G models
  • Gateways: TRB1xx, TRB2xx, TRB5xx series
  • Modems: TRM series
  • Switches: Selected TSW models

Third-party devices connected behind Teltonika routers can be accessed via RMS Connect, but are not directly managed by RMS itself.

UK and Data Residency Considerations

RMS is hosted on AWS infrastructure within the European Union. For UK deployments, data is processed within EU data centres.

Organisations with strict UK-only data residency requirements should validate compliance against internal policies. In practice, RMS is widely used across UK infrastructure, utilities, transport, and industrial IoT deployments.

RMS credits and packages are typically purchased through authorised UK distributors, often at more favourable pricing than direct online purchase.

Getting Started

Getting started with Teltonika RMS is straightforward:

  1. Create an account in the RMS portal
  2. Add devices using serial number and MAC address
  3. Devices connect automatically via the built-in RMS client
  4. Use the included 30-day trial period for evaluation
  5. Assign credits or packages for continued operation

Platform Summary

Teltonika RMS is a tightly integrated, manufacturer-specific remote management platform designed for real-world cellular deployments. It removes the operational friction of managing devices behind private networks while providing secure access, automation, and fleet-level visibility.

For organisations standardised on Teltonika hardware, RMS offers a practical and scalable alternative to building custom VPN and management infrastructure.
